A Soft All Natural Approach to Calming Anxiety in your Labrador
So many Labradors are effected by some form of anxiety. I see it all the time with some of the Lab Rescues that come through Labrador Friends of the South . They have been through so much. Whether it is storms, seperation anxiety, car rides or just holiday company and parties Thunder Shirt could just very well be your solution to these issues.
Saban, our Lab Rescue, deals with a slight separation anxiety and OCD so I was both happy and curious to try out the Thundershirt to see if would help ease some of his issues.
Saban pretty much has to be next to you and he is my little shadow. I love and understand because there is no telling what he had to go through before I adopted him. We have worked through a lot of issues and he is a great Labrador and I love him to death.
So as you can see the Thundershirt fits rather snug on Saban and that is precisely how it should fit because that is how it works. It works by supplying a small amount of even pressure to the body. It is said that when this is done the body will release oxytocin, the “trust hormone”, and will give a calming effect. You could also compare it to swaddling an infant. It makes them feel secure and safe.
We put it on Saban and it took me a few seconds to figure out how to put it on, but then again me being a guy I didn’t read the directions. So read the directions. Saban needed a couple of minutes to adjust to this new thing, but I can honestly say that I could see a difference in him. Once Saban settled into the Thundershirt, we could see the transformation. And there was one. I think the biggest thing I noticed was that Saban did not feel the need to be my shadow. He actually had no problem hanging out by himself in his bed people watching out the window.
It was actually awesome to see. I will admit I don’t mind him following me around everywhere but it was nice to see him relaxed. I even asked him if he wanted to come with me upstairs and he gave me the “No, I’m good here” look.
I like to put it on him when I am ripping and running. When I get home he usually is ecstatic and I have to ignore him for a bit until he calms down. When he has the Thundershirt on, he greets me but the over excitement is gone.
So the question is will it work on your Labrador Retriever? Thunder Shirt says that over 80% of the dogs show improvement. That to me is a great number considering there is absolutely no drugs being used. It is a great all natural approach and with a numerous amounts of positive feedback and reccomendations from Vets to trainers I would say it is a must try.
Thundershirt retails for around $39.95 give or take a dollar or two. A pretty fair price considering how it could help your Lab.
APPROVED!!
Where you can check out the Thundershirt:
we would have got 1 for our Chocolate Lab, but she’s not afraid at the Bridge anymore 🙁
My yellow lab that loved car rides decided at 8 years old that they now terrify her. After other suggestions failed, the thundershirt really worked like a charm. I recommend it without reservation.
Aww (hugs) Ed 🙁
Our Lab Rescue in NC uses them…I’m about to get one for my anxious rescued lab! He acts just like the reviewer’s dog.
Love Thundershirt! Composure is also great for stress!
I have a 9 year old Lab that has seperation anxiety and scratches or chews himself…not all the time but he hates being on his own!!!…Do you have a email or any information so I could see if they could ship to NZ????….It sounds brilliant
I have two thundershirts…one for a Lab and one for a Corgi…they worked for a while but now they aren’t even working for my fear intense pooches!!
Thundershirts rock! Our girl no longer needs ‘Ace’ when we have thunderstorms. At the first rumble, my husband and I spring into action like an Indy pit crew to “wrap the dog”. One caveat, it needs to be applied well in order to be fully effective. We’ve found the 2 person approach seems to work best on our Lab.
Didn’t work on my black lab and I was stunned! He loves wearing a sweatshirt, but hates this thing. Tried it snug, not snug….nothing worked with it 🙁

I love the thundershirt!! I highly recommened it!! Our Lab is really afraid of Thunderstorms and lots of people at our house. I do have valium for her but the thundershirt works way better!! It’s like when you swaddle a baby. It makes her feel so safe and secure!!

How do we win one? We would love one for our rescues.
I wonder is Tucker could use one…
I want one…..
I would love to win one. We have 5 Labs!!!! One of which has some health problems that gets worse when people are here and when her dad comes home from work. She would hopefully benefit a lot from using a ThunderSHIRT.
Get it together with the folks that manufacture this and get a commission. Seems lots of folks want one!!
It works!
i would love one for my ryleigh.she is so scared of fireworks
If my lab were alive. God rest her soul I’d buy her this .
My lab as a fear anxiety. I would love to win one of these thundershirts obviously to help my dog and to see for myself If it works:)
I’m just thinking about it . How does thks seem legit ?
I have 2 choccy Labs Im sure they would both benefit from a Thundershirt Milo has severe hip dysplasia sometimes the pain he has to endure makes him anxious and irritable Im sure he would benefit from one .Bailey suffers from stomach trouble, colitis IBS and anxiety causing a nervous stomach he suffers from stress.I feel both Bailey and Milo would benefit greatly from wearing one of these Thundershirts it would improve there quality of life a great deal
Where does the money go to ?
I have a rescue lab Phoebe, she has anxiety issues. I have an Autistic son also with high anxieties. I make weighted therapy products for those with special needs. I made a weighted blanket for phoebe and this reduces her anxieties also the same way it does for humans x
My black Lab, Jack, suffers with epilepsy. His seizures are often brought on by anxiety so I’m sure a Thundershirt would help him. They are much more expensive in the UK though 🙁 I’ll have to put it on my Christmas list.
If anyone is interested in a weighted blanket for their dog, i make lab sizes for £50 delivered and i am in the uk. I ave a pic on my page of my lab with her blanket. https://www.facebook.com/CalmUnderPressure
We bought one of the Thunder Shirts for Zoe, our Choc. Lab from N.C…..she wears it when it thunders and it works!
Love to try it on my lab mix hanna….she has some anxiety and it would be great to try on her…:) why do I have to use the words poo poop and dooty? LOL
I am very interested to see how this would work on my Maggie, she is a 9 year old black lab.
My husband accidentally ran over her left back leg, it was saved from amputation but always bothers her now, expecially in the cold weather. We live in BC Canada.
We to to Mexico every year and our friend comes in and house sits for us for two weeks, poor Maggie just looses it for the first few days we are gone, breaks my heart, she is the love of my life, saved me from a nervous break down and helped me through depression , she is the reason I am sane today!! My husband insisted in getting me a puppy 9 years ago, my focus in life changed and Maggie and I are attached at the hip,!! love her so much and she loves me,
thank you
Tanis
I would LOVE a thundershirt for my lab rescue, Hootie. Hootie has never been around other dogs. He has been exclusively a house dog. I want to socialize him, so that we can take walks together at the new city walking trail or on the golf course behind my house. He is scared to death of other dogs; he barks out of fear. His bark sounds like he is going to “get them”, but his tail is between his legs. He even barked with his tail between his legs at a tree frog ribbeting on my sons truck in the driveway (even though he could not see it). He is as calm as a cucumber in the house, but he frightened outside (except to go potty and right back in the house). He is a 2 year old, 100 pound gentle giant, who needs to find out that the world is not going to hurt him. Thanks for reading:)
Our black lab rescue tore it to pieces! but we ordered the leashes and it works great with both dogs!
