Get Motivated

An estimated 52.6% of US dogs are overweight or obese according to the Association for Pet Obesity and Prevention. Exercise is important crucial for the physical and mental health of your Labrador. When Labs don’t get enough exercise you can end up with a portly dog. You could also end up with a dog that is extremely bored and that can lead to behavior problems. StarWalk is a fun and affordable solution to add the extra motivation to get outside and get moving.

Keeping Track

I have to admit, lately I have not been getting out as much, so when the StarWalk arrived in the mail, I was excited to try it out. Once unboxed, I hooked it up to get a full charge. When it is done charging, you just attach it to the collar and then you will need to install the Apple or Android app to your phone. That way you can get some cool details about your Lab’s activity. It monitors everything from total steps, calories burned, active time, activity type, distance traveled and temperature.

Stats and Reminders

All charged up and ready to go, it was time to go for a walk. I found myself checking the app every few steps as it was fun to watch Saban’s stats come to life. It will also light up and let you know your progress of your goals in lighted increments. The StarWalk has built in peer benchmarks that help you compare where you fall and how much further you need to go to beat those numbers. It does not stop there. You can also program reminders for everything from medication times to reminding you to take a break from what you are doing and go get active.

The StarWalk can also go into a night walk mode emitting one of five fun colors to help keep you visible at night. It is waterproof which is a necessity for any Lab parent and has a universal fit. I liked the fact that it was NOT obnoxiously large like some of the other monitoring devices out there. It’s simple. And I like that.

It has been fun trying out the StarWalk and I can honestly say it has helped me to get my boys out and about. I have had some other fellow dog parents ask me what was that on their collars and when I explain it, I always get one response… “That’s pretty cool.” And it is.

Some things I would love to see added to the app is the ability to Share my Lab’s stats to social media or even have the ability to compare my stats to my friends stats, so that we can create group challenges. Last but not least, the StarWalk actually does more than motivates you to get your Lab fit, but it gets you fit in the process. 😉 that in my book is a win, win!

Hello from the manufacturer of the StarWalk. I wanted to share that the StarWalk does give you the ability to compare your status to other dogs including peer comparison. If you go to the settings tab and choose set other dogs and then chose the options you want to compare your dog too. You can even break it down by group of dogs ie sporting, toy, etc…

I saw that and liked that feature. I was wanting the ability to compare the actual data to my Labs friends.
